Hi all! Just a few quick updates on Enigma Heart!

Pixel artist Emily has left the project due to unforeseen circumstances on her end. I’m very happy with the work that she has done so far, and hope to still consider her a member of the Hadrosaurus Software team in future, whether it’s on this project or another!

After a successful Morlvision 2024 (check it out! It was a blast!), Martijn is getting started working on Enigma Heart‘s music. If you’ve heard his work on Acronia’s OST, then you already know how awesome he is. Music has always been my favorite aspect of any video game (not just mine), so I’m really excited to experience how Enigma Heart comes together with some great tunes in place!

I’m sure you noticed the image at the top of this post. It’s only a mockup — I probably won’t implement it in-game for a few weeks yet, because I still have other aspects I need to focus on — but I really like how it looks. I feel like it does a good job of extending the Zelda metaphor of using player sprites to represent game files, while also presenting a more compact view with more information about what’s in the file. I think it’ll feel pretty slick to use in-game.

Speaking of in-game… I’m happy to show off the very first gameplay video of Enigma Heart. Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress. It still contains placeholder sound effects, no music whatsoever, and many placeholder graphics borrowed from other games, especially the overworld tileset and the town and NPC graphics. But it should give you a good idea of the kind of gameplay I’m going for, and how much of a love letter to Zelda II this game is. Enjoy!
