Description
Unravel the mysteries of your past and ignite a rebellion in Enigma Heart, an emotional side-scrolling action RPG inspired by 8- and 16-bit classics. Explore an oppressed kingdom by foot and by sea, master melee combat and versatile magic, unlock hidden paths, and out-maneuver a tyrannical king to help heal a broken land.
Story
Waking up on the shores of a quiet seaside village with amnesia but also a strange knack for the sword, Zalia is nursed back to health by the local innkeeper Esme. As she pieces her past and her identity back together, she realizes her personal trauma is tangled with the fate of the entire realm of Lufain: a nation doing its best to thrive under the iron-fisted rule of a paranoid, defensive tyrant.
This is not a story of a lonely avenger, but of a community built from the ground up. It's a story of found family, a romance that heals the spirit, and the friends made along the way. Through it all, Zalia's true superpower isn't sorcery or the blade, but empathy.
History
Enigma Heart began as a challenge—literally. After technical hurdles forced the pause of Acronia, its author, Clarissa Toney, took time to reassess before a friend issued a unique test: create and prototype a new game in just two weeks. No overthinking, no perfectionism—just raw creativity and code. That challenge led to the foundation of Enigma Heart.
Originally intended as a short-term project, it quickly evolved into something much bigger. Drawing from a lifelong love of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Clarissa saw an opportunity to modernize its unique side-scrolling action-RPG mechanics while crafting a rich narrative with a sapphic love story at its heart. Over time, the project has gained traction, especially among queer gamers and Zelda II fans eager for a fresh take on the genre.
